Rare moments in life allow us the opportunity to celebrate and morn, laugh and cry together. Although this album was made with more laughs than tears, the undeniable absence of our friend Alvin Fielder is overwhelmingly present. However, such a spirit as Alvin is hard to suppress, even in death. This is evident in the drumming of Chad Anderson, longtime student and friend of Alvin, who joins the group in its first and only gig, taking Alvin’s place, and celebrating him, simultaneously. Douglass Ewart joins us in place of Kidd Jordan, who IS still with us, and delivers a defining sermon on life, loss, and love. The energy here is rolling and at a high level, emotionally. The selection of material harkens back to the initial Dopolarians recording, but extends into the future, in keeping with Alvin and Kidd’s wishes and uncompromising beliefs. Enjoy the ride.
